I’m so excited to work with you this year. Below is a list of classroom systems that will help keep you organized and successful!
Behavior Expectations
Class Rules:
- RESPECT. Respect yourself and others, which includes their feelings and their materials.
- RESPONSIBILITY. Be responsible for your actions and what is expected of you. This includes your behavior, work, and actions inside and outside the classroom.
Hallway Manners:
-Students will be expected to respect others in the building by staying quiet and not causing distractions while in the hallway. We are overcrowded this year too. Remember, you are the role models of the school.
Accountability:
-We are starting to prepare you for middle school. This means you are old enough to be responsible for your own work, bringing home the right materials, doing homework, studying, etc.
Homework Routine
Weekly Homework:
-Greek/Latin Root packet: You will have 10 words for each packet. These packets focus on understanding the meaning of the word rather than just the spelling. You will have a full week to complete each packet. You are expected to keep these packets in your “Take Home Folder”.
*Students will also be able to choose the amount of minutes to read each week. We have found that when we give a certain number of minutes to read, we can stifle a child’s reading. I will be collecting reading logs for the month and then analyze the amount of time being read. If I feel it’s not enough, we will decide as a team a good schedule to follow. (Aim for about 2 ½ hours of reading per week if you need a target.)
-Math: Monday-Thursday you will most likely have math homework. This is to practice the skills you learned in class. It’s used to show teachers you understand the material or that you may need some extra practice.
Turning in Homework:
-At the beginning of every class period, students will be expected to turn in homework when I collect it. If you have a teacher from another room, you need to turn in your homework immediately in the morning (except for Math class since we have it first thing).
-If students do not complete an assignment, they will have to get it circled in their assignment notebooks and need a parent signature as well.
-If students prove they are not being responsible for their homework, we will come up with a homework plan and will work with parents to help keep students on track.
Communication
Open Door Policy:
Students, I encourage you to come talk to me with problems or celebrations you may be having with classwork, not understanding certain lessons, or any other questions or concerns you may have. My job is to teach you and help you become the best student you can be in and out of the classroom.
Parents, I also encourage open communication! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns, or just want to stop in and say hello! Please e-mail me first, and we will determine if a conference needs to be scheduled.
